On Adventure

“Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

— J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I have been fortunate in my lifetime to have many adventures.

Not all of my adventures are extraordinary. Some, in fact, have been quite small.

The first time I knitted a sock was an adventure. It involved needles, techniques, and fiber I’d never used before. It resulted in a lot of tangles and one misadventure that required extracting a large portion of yarn from a recliner in my living room. Eventually, the whole endeavor produced a pair of not-quite-identical socks.

I’d say that was a successful, if small, adventure.

I’ve had larger adventures. My husband and I once spent two weeks in the UK with a little cash, a rental car, and no plan. We went where the locals suggested we go, and we met some wonderful people and saw some amazing sights that we might not have seen if we hadn’t been willing to “wing it.”

In the realm of adventures, writing has been quite a thrilling one for me. From being a marketing assistant years ago to freelance copywriter to fiction writer and back to freelance copywriter, it’s been quite a ride. Some of the stops along the way have been exciting and rewarding and fulfilling; others have been painful and heartbreaking.

But the beauty of adventures is that if you embrace and integrate the experiences, you can come out the richer for it all in the end.

It’s time for a new adventure.

This post marks my return to freelance copywriting. I have the business license in hand, the software set up, the Facebook and Twitter accounts reactivated, and the former clients e-mailed. With this post, I have the web presence going, too.

Now I just need a few good projects!

You can visit the My Story and My Services pages for a little more information about my specialties and services. I will be updating My Portfolio gradually over the next few weeks. I need some time to gather a few things and get permission to post others. In the meantime, if you want to see some of my samples, you are welcome to e-mail or call me. I do have some samples that I can share privately.

Even if you can’t use my services, I hope you’ll visit me here on occasion. I intend to blog about writing, grammar, business, story, and even, on occasion, knitting.

Because I refuse to waste a single adventure.

  1. Amy, I’m thrilled to find you again! Ever since you disappeared from view, I’ve been periodically checking to see if there was any news of you, in the hope that there might, one day, be a follow-up to Ravenmarked (one of my favouritest books, ever). Well, I can see that that’s not going to happen, but I’m delighted to see that you’re thriving and still writing.

All the best to you, and good luck with the freelance work.

    1. Hi Pauline,

Thank you so much for the kind note. I’m so sorry it took so long to reply! I’ve been swamped with . . . well, life. 🙂

I am, once again, writing. We’ll see where it takes me. Should anything significant happen, this is the place where I’ll communicate the news.

Thanks again for popping by. Best to you!
